Socorro García


 

Biography

 

Dr. Socorro García is an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University, San Antonio.  She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on educational assessment, literacy and understanding diverse families and young children.  Dr. García has served the field of education for over 20 years as an elementary monolingual and bilingual teacher, and administrator. Dr. García holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a principal certification from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.  A Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching with an Early childhood and Elementary cognate from the University of Texas at San Antonio.   Garcia’s research interests involve young children’s cultural wealth, family and community engagement, and the intersections of language and social justice through culturally relevant practices.  Dr. García is also the Co-PI on a federal grant and oversees the parental practices and family engagement on the project.
